Here you’ll find the unconventional life story of Jacqy B. A story that began with a 6-year-old girl at the piano, who was playing Chopin by the age of twelve but whose heart belonged to blues and pop. At sixteen she joined local bands, and the stage quickly became her home. Until the age of 27 she was an idealist, performing her own music, but eventually bills had to be paid — so she started working commercially as a singer. A decision that sent her career in an entirely new direction.
As a professional singer and pianist, she performed for fifteen years: in theatres, studios, at weddings, festivals, holiday parks and at the strangest locations she sometimes didn’t even know existed. She sang everything: from Marlène Dietrich to house and rap, 1930s music, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, gypsy-style acts, Spanish repertoire, custom-made shows… you name it. She even studied for a year at the Rotterdam Conservatory, but soon became too busy performing to continue. All those experiences shaped her — the musician became an artist.
But by the time she turned forty, she’d had enough. The commercial events world had slowly drained the creativity out of her, and she longed for new challenges. After 25 years on stage, she went back to studying. She found her way into the world of political consultancy and discovered talents she never knew she had. Yet that world didn’t fit her expressive nature. And so she reinvented herself once again.
At 48 she founded a painting and renovation company — simply because she could, and because she loved building, creating and working with her hands. Thirteen years later she still works with her team on scaffolds and projects, running a successful business. But in recent years, the old love began calling again.
